After the demise of Queen Elizabeth II, Harry and Meghan’s children are now his The Royal His Royal Highness Prince Archie from Sussex as well as Her Royal Highness Princess Lilibet Sussex.
The change is the consequence of conventions established more than 100 years ago. In accordance with the rules laid out in 1917 by George V in 1917, the children of the monarch automatically get the title of a royal.
As the grandchildren to the king Charles III, Archie and Lilibet are now eligible to be princess and prince while they were not immediately become great-grandchildren of Queen Elizabeth II.
Meghan earlier this year made the shocking suggestion that the title could be not given to Archie due to his mixed-race heritage. in an interview on the broadcaster Oprah Winfrey, the Duchess of Sussex stated that a member of the royal family has voiced “concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he was born.”
“That was relayed to me from Harry. Those were conversations that the family had with him,” Meghan stated, but did not divulge who was part of the conversations. “That would be very damaging to them,” she declared.
The duchess stated that the comments were made simultaneously that the couple were informed Archie was not entitled to security or any official titles. She also claimed that there had be “conversations” while she was pregnant regarding the way in which the convention would be altered once Charles was crowned King, which meant Archie was going to be denied the right to a title.
She told Winfrey that her worry about his son’s right to be given crown prince status was tied to her desire that he be protected by the police. Lilibet was born shortly after the interview had been conducted.
Buckingham Palace told when it was the time of Archie’s birth in the year 2019 it was reported that Duke and Duchess Sussex chose not to adopt any title whatsoever for their son.
Meghan did not agree with that idea in an interview with Winfrey she said: “It’s not our decision to make, right.”
There is no sign that the King will change anything to the convention.
Harry and Meghan declared in 2020 that they would resign from their royal duty as they “work to become financially independent.” They were able to agree that they would remain a part of the royal family, but they renounced their titles as HRH. It’s likely for Harry, Charles’ son is going to be offered an office in the royal house as long as Harry and Meghan return to their roles.
As a few relatives of the royal family including Harry was on a trip on a trip to Balmoral Castle on Thursday after Buckingham Palace announced “concern” about the Queen’s health. Meghan was not with her husband.
